Данная методическая разработка составлена с целью помочь учителю в подготовке учащихся 9

класса к выполнению 3 задания устной части ОГЭ. Весь материал построен в соответствии с

заданиями открытого банка ОГЭ 2016-2017 учебного года.

HOLIDAYS. HOW YOU CELEBRATE YOUR FAVOURITE HOLIDAY

I’d like to give a talk about holidays. Really, holidays have become an essential part of our life and without them

our days would be dull. Most people look forward to holidays. Firstly, they don’t have to go to work and have a

chance to relax. Secondly, they can do their favourite things: Visit their friends, for example. Moreover, holidays

make us feel happy and stimulate for work in the future. My favourite holiday is New Year’s Day. In my opinion it

is the most exciting and colourful holiday of the year. It’s full of fun, surprises and New year expectations. The

preparations for the holiday start weeks before. We clean our house, buy presents and make plans. On the 31-

st of December we listen to the president’s speech on TV and have a great time till the early hours. There is

hardly and holiday I dislike. I love all of them, because all of them were created to liven up our daily routine to

make our life more exciting and fulfilling.

LIBRARIES

I’d like to give a talk about libraries. Libraries have existed for a long time and they used to be the only place

where people gеt information. Nowadays, when the Internet has appeared, fewer and fewer people visit

libraries. The question is: Do we need them? In my opinion, libraries will continue to exist as long as people

write books. As for the school library, I visit it to borrow textbooks and books on literature. I sometimes visit the

school library to get the necessary information when the Internet is not available. Like most students, I prefer

surfing the net, as it is the fastest and the most comfortable way of getting information at any hour of the day or

night from anywhere in the world. All in all, it’s up to you to decide whether to use a library or surf the net. There

are people who enjoy the atmosphere of the library. As for me, I’m in favour of the Internet. That’s all I wanted to

HOLIDAYS. FAVOURITE HOLIDAY

I'd like to give a talk about holidays. Really, holidays have become part and parcel of our lives and without them

our days would be dull. There are many holidays in Russia: New Year's Day, Christmas, Women's Day, Victory

Day, May Day, Independence Day and others. New Year's Day, Women's Day, and Victory Day are the most

popular. As for my favourite holiday, it's New Year's Day, of course. In my opinion, it is one of the most exсiting

and colourful holidays. It’s full of fun, surprises, presents and New Year expectations. I don't have to go to

school for a fortnight and have a lot of time to enjoy myself. The preparations for the New Year start weeks

before. I just love this holiday atmosphere! We decorate a New Year tree, clean our house, make surprises and

buy holiday gifts for each other. On the thirty first of December we cook holiday dinner. At 12 midnight we listen

to the president's speech on TV, eat tasty dishes and have a great time till the early hours. The happiest

moment is when we exchange presents. All in all, holidays definitely liven up our lives. We look forward to them.

LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES. WAYS TO LEARN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

I'd like to give a talk about learning foreign languages. Good knowledge of foreign languages has become part

and parcel of our life. Personally, I think it's very important to speak foreign languages for several reasons.

Firstly, in our fast-moving world we travel a lot and have to discuss global problems with people of different

countries, so we must know the common language, and that is English. Secondly, you have to know a foreign

language to work on a joint venture. Moreover, you'd better know the language of the country you travel too, as

a tourist. You should know at least English. As for me, I learn English at school because I will need it for my

future career. There are lots of opportunities to learn a foreign language. Above all, students learn foreign

languages at school. They learn new words and collocations, do lots of listening, reading, speaking and writing.

There are also special language courses. It also has become popular to learn languages with tutors. One of the

most exciting ways of practicing English is to go abroad. To sum up, learning foreign languages is a must for

every educated person. Good knowledge of English is a way to more highly-paid jobs and to a better life. That's

all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

SPECIAL DAYS

I’d like to give a talk about special days. In my opinion, special days make our lives happier, more exciting and

fulfilling. There are a lot of events and occasions worth celebrating, such as professional holidays like Teacher’s

Day, Miner’s Day, Health worker’s Day. As for my family, we celebrate our birthdays, jubilees, wedding

anniversaries, the beginning and the end of the school year. I still remember the stunning house warming party.

I wish we moved house every year! It has become a tradition with our family to celebrate our birthdays with a

difference. We try to throw a surprise party. My mum’s birthday is my favourite. I love her so much that I look

forward to this day to give her all my love. It goes without saying that I love receiving gifts. Who doesn’t? But

most of all I enjoy giving presents. There is nothing like a happy smile on my mum’s face and her beautiful eyes

filled with tears. The moments I give presents to my nearest and dearest are the happiest in my life. That’s all I

wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

MOBILE PHONES

I’d like to give a talk about mobile phones that have become part and parcel of our life and changed our lives

greatly. They give us an opportunity to keep in touch with the people we need. It’s very comfortable, especially

in this fast-moving world. We can hardly imagine our life without them. Firstly, we use them to call our friends

and relatives. Secondly, we send messages. Moreover, we can surf the net, send e-mail, take pictures, set the

alarm-clock and what not. However, using mobile phones has some disadvantages. They deprive you of privacy

and it’s almost impossible to relax with your mobile phone on. More than that, many people are worried about

harmful influence of mobile phones on their health. Also, it’s quite annoying when students use their mobile

phones in class and try to cheat using them. To sum up, the mobile phone is very useful because it gives the

freedom of movement and makes communication much easier. Like any other gadget it should be used wisely.

SPORTS. WHAT YOU DO TO KEEP FIT

I'd like to give a talk about sport. There's no doubt, sport has become part and parcel of a healthy lifestyle.

Personally, I think (that) teens should do sports for several reasons. Firstly, it helps them keep fit and healthy,

especially, when they spend a lot of time with their computers and lack exercise. Really, inactivity can lead to

obesity and different diseases. Secondly, doing sports is fun. In my opinion, it's the best entertainment. I'd rather

do sports than watch them on TV. I'm good at football, basketball and volleyball. I'm a member of our school

basketball and volleyball teams. Sports do me a lot of good. They develop stamina, reaction and speed. Thanks

to these activities I've got a lot of friends, too. To keep fit I try to eat healthy food such as fruit and vegetables,

which are rich in vitamins and minerals. I don't eat junk food or visit fast-food restaurants. I also try to walk to

and from school. I don't smoke to show my independence. All in all, it's your body and it's up to you to decide

whether to do sports or not. I for one, choose a healthy lifestyle. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for

THE INTERNET. PROS AND CONS

I'd like to give a talk about the Internet. The Internet has become part and parcel of our lives and we can hardly

imagine our lives without it. Firstly, the Internet is the fastest and the most comfortable way of getting

information at any time from any place of the world. Secondly, we use it as an excellent learning tool for making

presentations, preparing for exams, making reports and what not. Moreover, we use e-mail to keep in touch with

our friends and the people we need. Furthermore, on-line shopping saves you both time and money. By joining

chat groups you can share your hobbies and special interests and make friends all over the world. However,

there are some disadvantages to using the Internet. There are students who become addicted to it. They are

glued to their computer all day instead of exercising. It may be harmful to their health. It’s also bad for your

eyesight. Finally, not all information is right or true. In conclusion, the Internet obviously has good and bad

points, so you should use it wisely. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

MONEY

I’d like to give a talk about pocket money. It’s rather difficult to imagine our lives without money. My parents

always give me some pocket money. I usually spend it at the school canteen. Besides, I need money to go out

with friends, to buy sweets, CD-s, tickets to the cinema or to the disco and presents for my friends. I sometimes

buy teenage magazines or books but most of my money goes on my mobile phone. I’ve never thought of a part-

time job, though some teenagers earn money in this way. I’ve got loads of homework to do and I also do sports,

so part time job is not my cup of tea. If I had lots of money / if I were rich enough I would try to improve life in my

home town. Firstly, I would create more parks with fountains and flower beds. Secondly, I would build a big

swimming pool, a cinema, a concert hall and a new school. Moreover, I would create an amusement park for

kids with a funfair and lots of attractions. I wish there were more places to go and things to do in my home town.

LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES. WHAT YOU DO TO IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH

I’d like to give a talk about learning foreign languages. Good knowledge of them has become part and parcel of

our lives. Personally I think it is useful to study foreign languages at school for several reasons. Firstly, learning

foreign languages improves your memory and your performance in other subjects gets better. Secondly, it helps

develop your speaking and writing skills in your native language. More than that, if you want to know a foreign

language you’d better start learning it as earlier as possible and that is at school. I’ d like to speak at least two

foreign languages, English and Chinese, but I think it would be very hard as learning foreign languages takes a

lot of time. To improve my English I work hard on my pronunciation, do lots of exercises and tests, do lots of

listening, reading writing and speaking. Besides, I have English classes with a tutor twice a week. That’s all I

PETS. WHAT PET YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE

I'd like to give a talk about pets. Really, pets have become part and parcel of our lives.

There is no doubt that there are

some advantages to keeping pets, dogs for example.

Firstly, they make good companions. You will never get bored with

them. They always show their happiness when they see their owner. Secondly, they are playful and extremely loyal, so they

are good company both for the elderly and children. More than that, trained dogs are very helpful and useful to their owners.

Dogs can be trained to guard your house and you will feel safe and secure.

Moreover, there are guide dogs which help their

blind owners. Finally, if you want your children to grow up kind and sympathetic get them a dog.

So, the person who said

that a dog is man's best friend is absolutely right. No wonder, people become attached to their pets. They treat them like

members of the family. Dogs do deserve it. People love them in exchange for their loyalty and devotion.

I'd like to have a

horse if I could, because horses are very clever animals. In conclusion, pets make our life more exciting and fulfilling. They

make us better. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me .

WATCHING TV IS IT STILL POPULAR AMONG TEENS?

I'd like to give a talk about TV. Television has become less popular with teens than the Internet. It can be a good learning tool

for teens, though. Firstly, there are lots of excellent educational programmes which give useful information on History , Biology,

Physics and other school subjects. Secondly, there are programmes that broaden our minds, such as quiz shows,

documentaries. More than that, thanks to television you can travel all over the world without leaving your home. Finally, you

can take lessons of English on TV. However, there are some disadvantages. There are a lot of silly programmes, such

as soaps or reality shows. In my opinion, watching them is a waste of time. Some children spend their free time in,

watching sports programmes instead of playing sports in real life. They can even become addicted to television and turn into

couch-potatoes. As for me I watch TV one hour a day. All in all, there are both advantages and disadvantages to watching

TV. It can be a useful learning tool, as long as you are aware of the drawbacks and use it wisely.

SCHOOL. WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE IN YOUR SCHOOL

I'd like to give a talk about my school. Actually school is part and parcel of our

lives. It's our second home.

My

school is an old three-storey building with more than 600 students. It is considered to be the best school in our

town. The school is well-equipped. There's a large computer centre with the Internet. All the classrooms and labs

are provided with computers and smart boards. You can get any information at our school

library too. There are

lots of clubs and after- school activities. I'm just crazy about school outings, competitions, contests, parties and

discos. Our school is famous for the best teachers and is proud of its school-leavers/former students. As for the

sports facilities, they leave much to be desired. We only have volleyball, basketball and table tennis equipment

and wall bars. I wish we had a more up-to-date gym with more opportunities for working out. The PE lessons

would be much more interesting if we had a swimming pool. I don't like the food at our school canteen either. I

wish the menu were more varied. That's all I wanted to say.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

I'd like to give a talk about school uniform. This problem is much spoken about at schools. Some people think

students should wear a school uniform, but others don't agree with them. Personally, I think students should

wear it for several reasons. Firstly, you don't have to worry about what to wear every day. Secondly, not all

students have enough money to buy stylish clothes. Uniforms make them all equal and social differences are

not seen. More than that, school uniform makes students well-disciplined. Really, school is the place where we

come to get knowledge, not to show off our outfits. However, there are some drawbacks in wearing a school

uniform. Students in uniforms look alike and they lose their individuality. Furthermore, some students have

sensitive skin and they might feel uncomfortable in synthetic uniforms. To sum up, there are both advantages

and disadvantages to wearing a school uniform. As for me, I'm in favour of the school uniform. In my opinion,

the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

I’d like to give a talk about environmental problems. They are much spoken about in mass media. Among them

are such problems as air and water pollution, deforestation, global warming, the amount of litter in the streets

and others. In my opinion, air and water pollution is the most serious problem because it causes cancer, lung

disease, allergies and what not. Clean air and water are our basic needs so we can’t be healthy without them.

People can do a lot to improve the situation. Firstly, to make our cities cleaner they should stop driving their cars

and start using public transport instead. If the authorities improved public transport people would leave their cars

at home. It’s also a good idea to use bicycles to get to work. Secondly, governments should pass laws banning

cars from city centers. Moreover, if the authorities put bins on every street corner people wouldn’t throw rubbish

everywhere. Furthermore, if people recycled things, then there wouldn’t be so much rubbish around. Finally,

governments should stop building so many houses and offices. If there were more trees and green areas in our

cities people would have more oxygen to breathe. I think these solutions would make our cities more

environmentally-friendly and healthier places to live in .That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

FREE TIME. WHAT YOU WOULD DO IF YOU HAD MORE FREE TIME.

I’d like to give a talk about my free time. People spend their free time differently. Some of them watch TV or play

computer games, others go to the cinema, theatre or museums, while others do their favourite things.

As for me, I enjoy playing sports, such as football, basketball and volleyball. It helps me keep fit and healthy and

I enjoy myself at the same time. In winter my friends and I go ice-skating and skiing. In summer we go

swimming and sunbathing. We often go backpacking or on picnics. I am a sociable person so I prefer to hang

out with my friends. We have a lot of fun together and we are never bored. If I had more free time I would study

the second foreign language besides English. I’m just crazy about foreign languages. I would also read more

books and take up collecting something. In my opinion, these things would broaden my mind. That’s all I wanted

TRAVELLING.WHAT PLACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO. THE BEST WAY OF TRAVELLING

I’d like to give a talk about travelling. I think, travelling livens up our life, makes it more exciting and fulfilling.

Most people like travelling because they get tired of doing the same things every day and they travel to see

different places, explore new areas, meet interesting people, try exotic food, get new impressions or just for a

change. As for me, I’d like to go to some exotic place like Thailand. I want to experience their lifestyle, watch the

traditional dance shows and visit their elephant football matches. In my opinion, the plane is the best means of

transport. It’s the fastest and the most comfortable way of travelling. You can get anywhere in the world in a

short time .That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

TRAVELLING. WHY PEOPLE TRAVEL MORE NOWADAYS

I’d like to give a talk about travelling. I think, travelling livens up our life, makes it more exciting and fulfilling.

Most people like travelling because they get tired of doing the same things every day and they travel to see

different places, explore new areas, meet interesting people, try exotic food, get new impressions or just for a

change. Travelling has become popular since the beginning of the 20-th century for several reasons. Firstly,

modern means of transport have made it possible to travel long distances in a very short time. Secondly, more

and more people can afford to travel because they have enough money. More than that, tourism has become a

profitable business in many countries, especially exotic ones. In my opinion, travelling by plane is the fastest

and the most comfortable way of travelling. While travelling, people enjoy doing different things from swimming

and sunbathing to climbing mountains and backpacking. It depends on whether you are lazy or active. As for

me, I like taking pictures and buying souvenirs to take back home. Well, I just love practicing my English

whenever it is possible. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

FITNESS AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE .

I’d like to give a talk about keeping fit. Fitness has become part and parcel of a healthy lifestyle.

Many people nowadays try to keep fit for many reasons. Firstly, such people are more efficient at work.

Secondly, some companies don’t employ people who are overweight. They prefer to have slim and healthy staff.

So, good appearance and fitness is a way to a highly-paid job.

As for me, I do sports. In my opinion, it’s the best pastime. It helps me keep fit and healthy and enjoy myself at

the same time. I’d rather play sports than watch them on TV, because sports develop stamina, reaction, strength

and help me make friends. Moreover, I try to eat low-fat foods such as fruit and vegetables that are rich in

vitamins and minerals. I don’t eat junk food so fast food restaurants are not my cup of tea. To keep fit I also try

to walk to and from school, go cycling and swimming whenever I can. My friends and I play such sports as

football, volleyball, basketball and ice hockey. I am especially good at football and I am in our school basketball

team so I often take part in sports competitions. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me

A FAMOUS PERSON FROM HISTORY

I’d like to give a talk about a famous person from history. There are lots of outstanding people in the world and

the nation is proud of them. Russia is rich in world-known scientists, writers, composers, artists and statesmen

who glorified their country. Personally, I think I can’t but mention the greatest figure in Russian history Peter the

First known as Peter the Great. He is the person I look up to for several reasons. Firstly, he opened the “window

to Europe”. He founded the most beautiful city in the world, St Petersburg. Secondly, he started culture

revolution and his reforms made a lasting impact on Russia. Moreover, through a number of successful wars he

expanded the territory of Russia and turned it into a leading European Power. Peter the Great lived in the 18-th

century and he definitely played an important role in the history of Russia because thanks to him the country

became a powerful state. The whole city of St Petersburg is the best monument to this outstanding person.

BOOKS. WHICH BOOK YOU WOULD TAKE TO A DESERT ISLAND

I’d like to give a talk about books. Well, books have become part and parcel of our lives and they have always

played an essential part in people’s education and entertainment. In spite of the Internet lots of people continue

reading books for several reasons. Firstly, you can take a book everywhere with you while travelling. Secondly,

you can read it lying comfortably on your sofa after a hard working day. Moreover, reading a book is healthier

than surfing the net. Furthermore, reading helps develop your writing and speaking skills. In my opinion,

Russian teens like reading different kinds of books from detective stories to science fiction. As for me, I’m keen

on adventure stories. If I went to a desert island I, perhaps, would take Robinson Crusoe with me. Really, it’s the

best book I have ever read. The story is so thrilling, the plot is so unbelievable and the characters are so

realistic that I could reread this wonderful book over and over. Besides, the book might help me survive on a

desert island. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

ENDANGERED SPECIES

I’d like to give a talk about endangered species of animals .This problem is much spoken about in mass media.

Wild animals become endangered for several reasons. Firstly, some of them, like sea turtles, are hunted for

meat. Some, like tigers, are hunted for their valuable fur, others, like rhinos, are hunted for their horns.

Secondly, there are wild animals which are smuggled across the border to be sold as pets, such as green-

cheeked parrots for example. Moreover, people cut down, trees to make space for building and farming. As a

result, wild animals lose their natural habitat and become extinct. There are lots of ways we can help protect

endangered species. First of all, governments should pass laws banning illegal hunting. Then they should

create more national parks or reserves for wild animals to live safely. Besides, zoos can help some wild animals

to breed. I don’t think it right to keep wild animals as pets. They are not attached to their owners like cats and

dogs, and they might bite, poison or even kill their owners. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

I’d like to give a talk about school holidays. Really, school holidays is the favourite thing of all students. We have

school holidays four times a year. We don’t have to go to school for three months in summer. In winter we have

a two-week holiday and in autumn and spring we have a one-week holiday. Summer holidays are my favorite for

several reasons. Firstly, they are the longest and I have a lot of time to do my favorite things, such as swimming,

sunbathing, cycling. Secondly, the weather is usually warm and sunny and I can spend a lot of time outdoors,

playing football and hanging out with my friends. More than that, our family usually goes to the seaside or

somewhere abroad. I like travelling a lot. I prefer to spend my summer holidays in the country, far away from

hustle and bustle of big cities because I enjoy fresh air and clean water in ecologically-friendly countryside. As

for the best holiday I have ever had, it was a package holiday to Turkey last year. It was just awesome! That’s all

SPECIAL EVENT

Every town In Russia has an annual celebration called the Town Day. In our town it is held on the third Sunday

of June. This festival celebrates the achievements of the local people in different fields of life. People make

plans and start their preparations weeks before. They prepare the concerts and performances, contests and

forms of entertainment, cook tasty dishes, invite guests and make other arrangements. When the big day

arrives people come to the central square to the opening ceremony. They listen to the mayor’s speech. Then the

best people of the town are honored and awarded. After that the concert starts. It is performed by local talents

and folk groups in national costumes. The enthusiastic crowds cheer excitedly while watching a colorful

performance of dancers and singers. There is a festive atmosphere with people in colorful clothes, dancing the

evening away. We all stay up late eating, drinking and having fun. The Town Day is truly a fantastic event. We all

feel happy and excited. What I like most about it, is the music and dancing that continues all through thenight

and the firework display at midnight.

TAKING PICTURES

I’d like to give a talk about taking pictures. It has become much more popular nowadays than in the past for

several reasons. Modern sophisticated cameras have made the process much easier. The only thing you have

to do is press the buttons, that’s all. Secondly, nowadays people travel much more than they used to. They see

different places and want to take a picture to capture the exciting moments of their experience and keep them

forever. Moreover, you don’t have to develop the pictures and keep them in your picture album. You can just

store them inside your computer. So, it’s very convenient. As for me, I have got a lot of pictures on my computer.

The best photo I’ve ever taken is that of a rhino, chasing our car while on safari in Africa. All in all, photos make

our life experience more colorful and impressive. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

TRAVELLING. THE BEST WEATHER FOR TRAVELLING IN RUSSIA. THE BEST SEASON

I’d like to give a talk about travelling. I think it livens up our life and makes it more exciting and fulfilling. Most

people like travelling because they get tired of doing the same things every day, and they want to do something

just for a change. They travel to see different places, explore new areas, meet interesting people, learn about

their customs and traditions and try exotic food. As for the right weather for travelling, I think it depends on your

holiday destination. In some places any weather will do, because it is fine all year round. The best weather for

travelling in Russia is summer, of course, when it’s warm and sunny and the days are so long. Some foreign

tourists are crazy about Russian winter, though. So, it depends. In my opinion, the plane is the best means of

transport because it’s the fastest and the most comfortable way of travelling. You can get anywhere in the world

in a short time. All in all, travelling has become part and parcel of our life and we look forward to our holidays to

go somewhere to get new impressions. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

SEASONS

I’d like to give a talk about seasons. There are four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter and in Russia

we have all of them. They say,” There is no bad weather, there are bad clothes.” I agree, all of the seasons are

wonderful in their own way. As for my favourite season, I like both summer and winter. It’s hot and sunny in

summer and I can go swimming and sunbathing. Moreover, I have my summer holidays and have a lot of free

time to do my favorite things. In winter I enjoy skiing and skating on a sunny frosty day. Russia is so beautiful in

winter. However, the climate has changed greatly for the last decades. Due to global warming the weather can

MY FUTURE CAREER

I’d like to give a talk about my future career. In our family this problem is much spoken about. In two years

I am finishing school and have to choose my profession. Really, there are lots of interesting jobs and it’s not

easy to make the right choice. When I was a bit younger I wanted to follow in my parents’ footsteps and become

a doctor. Now I have changed my mind and decided to become a translator or an interpreter. I am keen on

English and I’m at the top of the class in it. My English teacher says I have all the necessary qualities and I’ll

make a good translator. In my opinion, English and Russian are the most important subjects for my future

career, so I work hard to study them. I’ll need History too. My parents approve of my choice. They support me

and help to achieve my goal. All in all, if you work hard at school and are ambitious enough your dream will

come true.

LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES. Why you have chosen English for exam

I’d like to give a talk about learning foreign languages. Good knowledge of them has become part and parcel of

our life. Lots of people learn foreign languages for several reasons. Firstly, in our fast-moving world we travel a

lot and have to discuss global problems with people from different countries, so we must know the common

language and that is English. Secondly, you have to know a foreign language to work on a joint venture.

Moreover, you’d better know the language of the country you travel to as a tourist. You should know at least

English to make yourself understood by people all over the world. I’ve chosen to take an exam in English

because I need it to go to university. I want to enter the linguistic department and become a translator. I work

hard to prepare for my English exam, doing a lot of listening, reading, writing and speaking. I hope I’ll pass the

exam with flying colours. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

READING BOOKS. Why reading is still popular with teens

I’d like to give a talk about reading books. Well, books have become part and parcel of our lives and they have

always played an essential part in people’s education and entertainment. In spite of the Internet reading books

is still popular with teenagers for several reasons. Firstly, you can take a book everywhere with you while

travelling. Secondly, you can read it lying comfortably on your sofa after a hard working day. Moreover, reading

a book is much healthier than surfing the net or reading an e-book. Furthermore, reading helps you develop

your writing and speaking skills. As for me, I like reading different kinds of books from detective stories to

science fiction. I’m also keen on adventure stories. They are so thrilling and full of suspense. However, some

people prefer e-books to paper books, because they are comfortable to use and don’t need much space. You

can carry an e-book in your pocket. In conclusion, it’s up to you to decide whether to read paper books or e-

books. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

DOING HOMEWORK

I’d like to give a talk about homework. Really, doing homework has become part and parcel of students’ daily

routine. Hardworking students spend a lot of time trying to do it properly. I would say, the better a student is, the

more time they spend on their homework. As for me, I study hard, so it usually takes me three or four hours to

do my homework. Well, it depends on a weekday though. I usually start with the subjects that are neither difficult

nor easy for me, such as Russian and Geography. Then I pass on to the most difficult and time-consuming like

math or English. Then after a short break I do the easiest subjects. They don’t take much time or effort. In my

opinion, schoolchildren should be given less homework to do, so that they can have more free time to do their

favourite things. All work and no play made Jack a dull boy. To sum up, if you want to be successful you should

do your homework properly whether you like it or not. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

FREE TIME. SUNDAY AFTERNOONS

I’d like to give a talk about my free time. Really, in this fast-moving world people have less free time than they

would like to. As for me, I have very little spare time if any during the school year because I have to do my

homework. Whenever I have some free time I enjoy playing sports, such as football, basketball and volleyball. It

helps me keep fit and healthy and I enjoy myself at the same time. In winter my friends and I go ice-skating and

skiing. In summer we go swimming and sunbathing. We often go backpacking or on picnics. I am a sociable

person so I prefer to hang out with my friends. We have a lot of fun together and we are never bored. My

Sunday afternoons are quite different. It depends on the season and on the weather. If the weather permits I

spend my time outside. If the weather is bad I stay in, watching TV, reading, surfing the net or learning English.

In conclusion, it’s up to you to decide how to spend your free time. I for one, try to make the best of it to make my life more exciting.

KEEPING PETS IS A BIG RESPONSIBILITY

I'd like to give a talk about pets. Really, pets have become part and parcel of our lives. The most popular pets in big cities

are cats and dogs. There is no doubt that there are some advantages to keeping pets, dogs for example.

Firstly, they make

good companions. You will never get bored with them. They always show their happiness when they see their owner. Secondly,

they are playful and extremely loyal, so they are good company both for the elderly and children. More than that, trained

dogs, for example, are very helpful and useful to their owners. They can be trained to guard your house and you will feel safe

and secure. Moreover, there are guide dogs which help their blind owners. Finally, if you want your children to grow up kind

and sympathetic get them a dog. We are responsible for our pets, though. We must take care of them – feed them, wash

and brush them, clean their cages and litter-trays. We have to take them to the vet regularly. We are responsible for our pets

because they are dependent on their owners and the quality of their life depends on us. In conclusion, pets liven up our life,

make it more exciting and fulfilling. They make us better. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening to me.

MY TYPICAL SCHOOL DAY

I’d like to give a talk about my school life. Really, school is my second home because I spend lots of time there.

Well, school starts at 8 am, so I have to get up at 6 am. I usually have six or seven lessons a day come home

from school at about 2 pm. I have lunch and after a short rest I do my homework. It takes me about three hours

or even more to do my homework properly. Then I have some free time to relax and do my favourite things. I

have to go to bed early as I have to get up early on weekdays. My favourite subjects are English and history and

I’m at the top of the class in them. I work hard on these subjects because I will need them for my future career. I

like everything about my school – the teachers and their lessons, after-school activities and the atmosphere
